DOC, 00:15:16A challenging work from the point of view of narrative, built from fragments of advertising images. Clément Cogitore’s latest work explores the excesses of the simultaneously fascinating and repulsive visual stereotypes, that filled the public space, and which, both good and bad, make part of our visual universe of reference. Decontextualised and emptied, those images are manipulated and re-signified through a female voice and a narrative mechanism that also denounces the media device. The chroma key emerges as the central element of this emptying, as a simulacrum of an artificial reality. “The Evil Eye” marks the debut of the young French filmmaker Clément Cogitore at Curtas Vila do Conde, an award-winning author in Cannes, San Sebastián, FID Marseille, Moscow, among many other festivals.
