In a bitter and very sour way, “Piece Of Meat” portrays the life of a prostitute-chop and other animated beings of various natures (a bottle, a brush, a potato, a durian and other fruits) with which it crosses ways in a more or less accidental way. Based on a short story by Eric Khoo, this animated film is a provocative metaphor about modern societies and how people are objectified and discarded in a consumerist and capitalist context. The deterioration of social and human relations, embodied here by these unusual objects, challenges the spectator to reflect on the state of the world in an era of increasingly virtual relations. Selected to the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and for the Annecy Festival, “Piece Of Meat” marks the debut of the duo of Singaporean filmmakers at Curtas.
