When Federico finds in the fridge the potato knishes (typical Jewish dish) his recently deceased grandmother had given him, everything changes in his relationship with his girlfriend. Condensed version of a certain Argentinean society where religion, psychology, food and a healthy dose of humour are mixed, “Shakti” marks the return of the director Rejtman to short film several years later, claiming that the “the seeming lack of ambition” of a short works as “a healthy antidote to the endless chapters and sequels” that spread throughout today's filmmaking. A newcomer in Curtas's competition, he's however one of Argentina's contemporary film most notable directors, having directed his first feature in 1992. His work has undergo several retrospectives, including in Portugal. (MD)
