PER ASPERA AD ASTRAPER ASPERA AD ASTRAFranck Dion, 2019 France,
ANI, 00:11:10This fairy-tale, both loving and distressing, shows a day in the life of an all too human hen, always busy in spite of her banal daily life, torn between her work as a housekeeper and her domestic duties (taking care of her children and her old mother). The action takes place in a retrofuturistic dystopian society, and the visuals, conceived as a sort of architectonical utopia imagined by an art nouveau architect 100 years earlier, confirm Franck Dion as a remarkable creator of atmospheres, as he had proved before in the award-winning animated shorts films “Edmond était un âne” (2012) and “Une Tête Disparaît” (2016), both screened at Curtas Vila do Conde's international competition. The film is a tribute to common people – it is also inspired in the song Les vraies gens [the real people] – and in particular to single mothers. Through hardships to the stars, it's the meaning of the Latin phrase that gives title to the film.
