FATIYA FATIYA

Originally from France, “Fatiya” is a short film directed by Marion Desseigne-Ravel, this being her first participation in Curtas Vila do Conde. From the story of Fatya, a young Muslim woman who was a victim of xenophobia and racism, the filmmaker addresses a very current and pertinent problem in contemporary societies. Fatya goes to the mall with a friend to meet a woman who ends up refusing her babysitting service because of her Islamic hijab. In addition, Fatya still suffers prejudice from a security guard at the mall who requires her to show him her purse as well as her clothing pockets. Fatya ends up unloading her feelings on her friend saying that no boy like him would love a girl like her. They become angry and each one goes on their way. At the end of the day, they end up making peace.
