LISBOA, 2018THE AGE OF ANXIETYFrancisco Valente, 2019 Portugal,
FIC, 00:20:30What is a relationship worth? Can we still love each other? Francisco Valente continues his search about love in his new short film “Lisboa, 2018”. Over the course of one ordinary night, the film turns to the relationship of a couple, Luís and Mariana, during her last night home before going on a long journey. Using light, everyday dialogues, Valente peers into the little things that make up a couple's daily life and the inability to anticipate an unforeseeable future. With its gentle charm, “Lisboa, 2018” is an extension of 2015's “Tenho Um Rosto Para Ser Amado”, which also screened at Curtas Vila do Conde. These are seemingly straightforward films about characters that are close to us, shot in a subtle yet truthful way. Filmmaking also feeds off of that candid gaze, although here in a cartoonish rendition of our lives. Outside it's still night, all futures are possible. (DR)
