Peering into Oporto's night, “O Verde Do Jardim” follows a group of lonely characters looking for an ever fleeting affection. The bond between Diana, a transgender, and an injured motorcyclist allows for a glimmer of tenderness between two distant people. Every night Diana welcomes those who are looking for warmth; the motorcyclist is also a realtor suffering from a broken heart. The film stems from the relationship between the two and their ordinary lives, thus creating a subtle and very humane narrative. With his new film, Diogo Costa Amarante surprises once again with a sensitive story about characters trying to find themselves and their place in the world, notwithstanding the adverse terrain and the city's typical night fog. The filmmaker is back to Vila do Conde after “Cidade Pequena”, that begun in the festival a journey which would led to a Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale. (DR)
