LES EXTRAORDINAIRES MÉSAVENTURES DE LA JEUNE FILLE DE PIERRETHE MARVELOUS MISADVENTURES OF THE STONE LADYGabriel Abrantes, 2019 France · Portugal,
FIC, 00:20:00At night, as soon as the Louvre Museum's doors close and the last visitors leave, the works of art come to life. A sculpture runs from the Louvre to confront real life's complexities and contradictions. The protest rallies and police brutality on the streets of Paris instil a political awareness in the sculpture, who also shares with Diamantino, a character from the director's previous film, a naivety which is put to test amidst the current political affairs. Mixing animation and live-action film, Gabriel Abrantes finds the missing link between Pixar and Disney's movies and experimental filmmaking, showing respect and admiration for both. In this sense, he combines entertainment and his view on the spirit of time, thus bringing out a political message that stems from the reversal of cinematic formulae, film codes and genre experimenting. Gabriel Abrantes is a regular at Curtas since 2009, having received awards for “Fratelli” (2011, Jury's Special Mention), “A Brief History Of Princess X” (2016, Best Director Award) and “The Artificial Humors” (201, Best Director Award). In 2018, the feature “Diamantino” was Curtas' opening film. (MD)
