DOC, 00:06:00In 1965, Manoel de Oliveira shot two films with José Régio (“Romance de Vila do Conde” and “O Vitral e a Santa Morta”), however, they were only finished in 2008. The films should have been part of a bigger project that remains unfinished, entitled “Palco Dum Povo”. The project, that originally included “As Pinturas do Meu Irmão Júlio” – also filmed at José Régio’s home in Vila do Conde, which was the only known excerpt until now -, was meant to show popular celebrations and pilgrimages in contrast with poets and their poetry, painters and their paintings, musicians and their contemporary music. The films remained silent until 2001, when Manoel de Oliveira asked the actor Luís Miguel Cintra to record the poem, eventually completing the final cut in 2008.
