Unlike other Solondz films, in “Diários de Um Falhado”, the filmmaker focuses on only two characters who develop a sui generis relationship. Abe and Miranda still live in their parents’ home and both seem, in fact, children in adult bodies. In particular, Abe is a mocking character: incompetent at work – in which he has a leadership position because the company is his father’s property –, he is obsessed with action figures and he is a bachelor who does not fit there. One day, he meets Miranda and a relationship is born between them. But Miranda is also fragile and the relationship will be troubled. Once again, the filmmaker builds deeply lonely characters, who are clumsily seeking to live a loving and “normal” life. (DR)
