Diogo Salgado's first short film was selected for the Official Short Film Competition at the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Through the Haze”, Diogo Salgado's first film, was selected for the Short Film Competition of the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place between 6th and 17th of July.

The short film, which has its international premiere in Cannes, narrates the afternoon of two boys playing in the woods by the lake. When one of them disappears, the lagoon and its inhabitants take control of the narrative, building a labyrinth that surrounds the two children at nightfall. As one of the boys wanders through the forest in search of his friend, the silhouettes, textures and sounds slowly exert their strength.

The film, with photography by Joana Silva Fernandes and sound by Miguel Coelho, has as its lead actors Afonso Gregório, Simão Bernardino and Lionel Santos, inhabitants of the place where it was filmed, and is promoted and distributed by Agência - Portuguese Short Film Agency. In 2020, "Through the Haze" had already been awarded Best Film in the National Competition of Curtas Vila do Conde.

With the first edition in 1946, preceded by almost a decade of preparation for the festival, Cannes was shaped by the post-war period and, from its beginnings, presented the clear goal of encouraging the development of cinematographic art in all its forms, creating and fostering collaboration among all film-producing countries. The Cannes International Film Festival is considered one of the most important festivals on the international scene, combining the greatest film stars with the discovery of new talents.
