As such, the recognition of Curtas Vila do Conde as a BAFTA Qualifying Festival reinforces the festival’s international prestige, adding to the distinctions it already held as an Oscar Qualifying Film Festival and a qualifying festival for the European Film Awards from the European Film Academy. This new designation consolidates Curtas Vila do Conde’s position among the most prominent film festivals, expanding the range of qualifications that recognize its impact on the international film scene.


BAFTA Submissions Now Open

The BAFTAs are now accepting submissions in the British Short Film and British Animated Short Film categories for the 2027 EE BAFTA Film Awards through September 30. Eligible entries are British short films under 40 minutes in length, provided they have screened at two festivals from the list of eligible festivals for the British Short Film category and at one festival for the British Animated Short Film category, and that they had their first festival screening on or after June 1, 2025.
