Over the last decade and a half, Alberto Vázquez has developed a cinematographic oeuvre that combines animation, the fantastic and horror, with a very distinctive visual, thematic and narrative style, characterized above all by a raw and disconcerting, sometimes sickening subversion of the popular universe of children's stories. With narratives populated by teddy bears and anthropomorphic unicorns, Vázquez develops existential fables about human nature and its relationship with nature with corrosive humor.

With a multidisciplinary creative profile, which is articulated mainly between animated cinema, illustration and comics, Alberto Vázquez is also a celebrated artist, with four Goya awards, several Platino awards and more than a hundred distinctions at prestigious festivals such as Annecy, Chicago, among others. His creations have also been selected for Cannes, the EFA Awards, Toronto, Clermond-Ferrand and Animafest.

The program that Curtas is dedicating to him in this edition seeks to present his consistent creative universe, where he works with very particular themes, narratives and characters in an original way. The unusual and successful crossing of animation cinema with the codes of the fantastic and horror genres has earned him wide recognition from specialized critics. The program also includes a carte blanche with the director's choices and a rare opportunity for the Portuguese public to talk to the director, where he will revisit the most important moments of his career and his creative process.
