As part of its Expanded Cinema programme, Curtas Vila do Conde will present the work "Morada Aberta" on July 13th at 3:30 PM, at the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre (Room 2). This interdisciplinary project brings together cinema, performance, and documentary research.
"Morada Aberta" unfolds across various artistic languages and territories, using digital video alongside analogue film formats such as Super 8mm and 16mm. Blending documentary and fictional elements, the work draws on the artist’s personal history while following the daily lives of women from the North, Baixo Minho, and Alto Minho regions of Portugal—historically referred to as witches and healers.
The piece offers a profound reflection on concepts of illness and healing within a mystical-religious framework, examining ancestral knowledge and practices that endure beyond the boundaries of conventional medicine. It seeks to understand why individuals turn to these alternative healing methods, highlighting the intersections between identity, territory, and spirituality.
Part of a programme known for pushing the boundaries of traditional cinema through formal experimentation and interdisciplinary dialogue, "Morada Aberta" underscores Curtas Vila do Conde’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovative and expanded cinematic languages.
