The film "The Mother and the Sea", by Gonçalo Tocha, was selected for the Rotterdam Film Festival to be held from January 22 to February 2 in the Netherlands. The documentary will be shown in My Own Private Europe section, which aims to rediscover the identity of Europe through the personal view of several European filmmakers.

The film was also chosen to open the 13th edition of the Festival of Documentaries of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which will happen between 14 and 28 February in New York. The Portuguese documentary will be shown on the first day of the festival which this year will feature 30 international films.
