Led by Beato José Lourenço, Caldeirão da Santa Cruz do Deserto was a religious communitarian movement no nordeste do Brasil, that lasted from 1926 to 1937, when it was invaded by the police and bombed by the Brazilian Air Force. Today, the community is cited as an example of peasant autonomy by quilombola, agro-ecological and Landless Workers’ Movement communities.
