Shadow boxing - A technical term that, in the training of boxers, means facing an imaginary opponent, avoiding potential blows and hitting the empty space. Another form of shadow boxing consists on correcting one´s posture by facing one´s own reflection in the mirror. Lisbon, 1994, Joaquim Silveira, 38, an ex-boxer, is the trainer of the Lisboa Clube Rio de Janeiro's boxing team. In this popular neighbourhood club coaches several amateur boxers, who have been with him since he set up the youngest boxing school ever known in Portugal. Silveira is a man of the night, working as a bouncer at a rock club in town. The tattoos on his body are like the scars of a shadowy past. Boxing has disciplined him and given him an almost mystical commitment as a trainer.
