During the shooting of the film 'L'Aveau' (The Confession) in the north of France in 1970, directed by Costa Gavras, and inspired by the Slanski-trial in Czechoslovakia in 1951-52 where eleven persons were sentenced to death for anti-communist activities, Chris Marker is talking with Arthur London, Jorge Semprun, Costa-Gavras, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret and the film technicians. Arthur London was the youngest among the three sentenced to prison. He as released during the spring of 1968. After the Soviet invasion 21st of August he left Czechoslovakia for Paris, where he settled. Some of the questions posed in the film: What is a true communist? Should one always tell the truth, even if this means carrying grist to the opponent's mill? How can Artur London, victim of the Prague Trials, after all these trials and tribulations, have faith in socialism?
