An experimental fantasy based on Mussorgsky`s music, this was the first film by the Paris-based lithographer Alexeieff and his wife, Claire Parker, on a pinboard apparatus he had invented consisting of a large board covered with pins that could be raised or lowered. When lit from the side, the different shadows cast by the pins combined to form a picture with all the fineness of tone and shading of an engraving.
