The most famous of all Depression backstage musicals actually was a revitalisation of a dying genre, design to showcase the talents of Busby Berkeley, who shot his three incredibly elaborate numbers completely separately (with a different unit at a different studio) from the 'story' scenes. The score by Al Dublin and unsung great Harry Warren includes "42nd Street" and "Young and Healthy".
