Jonathan Hodgson collaborated with illustrator Jonny Hannah to make this adaptation of the poem by Charles Bukowski. Seen from a child's unsullied perspective the film tells of a gang of kids who find a strange house with a overgrow garden where they play. Only once do they meet the man who lives there, a dead-beat alcoholic with a free and easy spirit who welcomes them. The children see him as a romantic character in stark contrast to their neurotically house proud parents. The film ends with the loss of innocence as the children realize there is a evil at work int he world, though just who the perpetrators are is left for the audience to decide.
