The movie is based on the novel 'Crime and Punishment' by Fiodor Dostoiewski. Raskolnikow, a young man, is possessed by by the obsession to commit a crime, and only his love for Sonia can stop it. His struggle between extremities of good and evil, love and crime is watched by an old man - Shidrygajlow. The story of the origin of crime and love, taking place in 19th century Petersburg or maybe in post-war Warszawa, during one night.
