BLOCK PARTY is a documentary on the early Hip Hop scene that disappeared almost immediately. It takes the form of a music [VID] Video that didn’t exist at that time. Shot in Harlem and the South Bronx the film recreates a block party in its original environment. Block parties were community events that developed spontaneously, as the arena in which new forms of music, breakbeat and scratching, emerged. The voices you hear are those of the pioneers of Hip Hop – Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Jazzy Jay and Grandwizzard Theodore. They are burned on the ‘side B’ of a record. Side A plays Apache from Original Bongo Band, hymn of the Bronx.
