SAVAGE STREETS is an absolutely exemplary film to understand the concept of exploitation cinema. Directed by Danny Steinmann at the beginning of the 1980’s, there is practically no theme connected with the genre that hasn’t been revisited here: gang wars, post-apocalypse, women in jail, naked high school students. The only thing missing from the list is a horde of blood thirsty zombies.Like in “Foxy Brown”, the plot in SAVAGE STREETS is very simple: Linda Blair (that’s right, the actress from “The Exorcist”) is Brenda, a young woman from LA that becomes a vigilante when her younger deaf sister, Heather, is brutally raped by a local gang of ruffians and her best friend is murdered. There’s nothing left for Brenda to do but to avenge them.
