Starting with a dolly shot of Vin Diesel whipping his head toward the camera with a look of pure defiance on his face, Pure deconstructs the action/adventure film into its constituent visual parts. In sections that follow, Tom Cruise and Matt Damon run at top speed through the streets, cars chase each other through city streets, and explosions send debris flying in all directions, each section linked to the next so that fifty films turn into one. Set to hard-charging music by indie rock icons The Jesus Lizard, Pure is a meditation on genre, a commentary on visual clichés, and a celebration of the visceral pleasures of cinema.
