Filmed in Rome in the famous Cinecittà, Flesh For Frankenstein has the decadent glamour of the old Italian movies and is a tribute (and a parody) to the earnestness conveyed by the horror films in which it is based as well as their beauty. The film’s modern appeal comes from Paul Morrissey’s ironic distance, with his revolting humour, and from the use of a gothic story as a vehicle for a commentary on power, knowledge and social order.While most renditions of this book portray Dr. Frankenstein as a man whose dedication to science and search for professional glory lead him too far, in this version, his interests are more of an egotistical nature: he’s trying to dominate the world by creating a new species that will obey him completely and comply with all his commands.The film was distributed in the US in 3-D Space-Vision with the title Andy Warhol's Frankenstein, but in future releases it would be renamed Flesh for Frankenstein.
