Adrien (Thomas Langmann) is 19 years old. He has not seen his father (Jean-Pierre Léaud) for four years when he turns up at his home in Paris without prior warning. His father is living with Louise (Judith Godrèche), a drug addict who is also 19. Their initial antipathy is mutual but the two teenagers gradually start a relationship with each other and move into a squat together. Half a year later, Louise puts their love on the line in order to realize her dream of pursuing a career in television. Adrien gets implicated in illegal deals and has to go underground. Everyone involved is looking for or trying to escape themselves. Deals and transactions of all kinds are routine. In the end, they all pay a high price.
