On a whim, three friends who are all members of a rock band, break into a music shop and accidentally kill the owner. They agree to pretend nothing has happened, but everything is different and the consequences of their act shake their friendship to the core, with lies, distrust, envy and jealousy surfacing. They manage to put on one last concert but a planned performance in London turns into a fiasco. Rock'n'roll is no match for melancholy – their youthful innocence and their dreams are lost forever. The group disbands and their utopian ideals are buried. The compromises of adult-life begin. Each member seeks a way out but none finds a goal. Right from the beginning of his career, Assayas was less interested in events than the traces they leave behind, working with gaps in the narrative and bold cuts.
