This session presents a screening of Super 8 short films commissioned from various authors for the Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture event. Rather than exploring the role of experimentation in Super 8 in an increasingly (almost exclusively) digital world, the question raised by this challenge is: what is the outcome of this experimentation in a format that has increasingly less mass appeal? It is a question that becomes even more interesting when posed to a group of authors whose interdisciplinary artistic backgrounds – ranging from literature to cinema itself and including photography, music and the plastic arts – will ensure a profoundly pluralistic answer. Featuring films by André Cepeda, Paulo Furtado, Edgar Pêra, Rodrigo Areias, Eduardo Brito, Daniel Blaufuks, Pedro Bastos, Miguel Moreira, Ricardo Bastos Areias, Marcos Barbosa, Jorge Quintela, Maria Luis Neiva, Tânia Dinis, Valter Hugo Mãe and Carlos Lobo.
