Despite identifying as an independent North American filmmaker and therefore not obliged to follow any overly formal models, this short film by Zia Anger is ultimately a criticism of the genre itself. Obviously, what goes on in the film – without wishing to spoil the surprise – is linked to the choice of title but, given that the director is still very young, it becomes even more curious. There are two parts, two ‘sketches’ in which ZA adopts a deliberately scornful attitude towards an excessively centred film genre full of self-motivation and instead proposes a psychological game that lies somewhere between an outburst against issues of the quasi professionalism of the world of independent cinema, and the surprise ending in each part and for the main characters who are, in effect, playing their last film. It is a game that is also based on the perception of the different levels in which the characters are situated, actresses who talk about themselves in the first person and the vagaries of their work as if in a typically “art film” false documentary.
