This is the story of Vaysha, a woman born with double vision, a poetic and also tragic heterotropia: seeing the past with her left eye, and the future with her right. Vaysha cannot cope with her existence, being condemned to diverge simultaneously between yesterday and tomorrow. The film confronts us with the idea of amputation of the present, of how thin and distressing our timeline is, and the powerful importance of now. Visually, Ushev recovers the traditional techniques of xylogravure cuts, although the effect is produced through a digital process, thus juxtaposing - also in the visual proposal – divergent time spaces. Ushev is a prolific and gifted animator, and a regular participant at Vila do Conde since 2006, with eight of his films being screened, including “Gloria Victoria”, which won the prize for best animation in 2013. He comes this year with a philosophical adaptation of a story with the same title, by Georgi Gospodino, included in the book “And Other Stories”. “Blind Vaysha” was released in the latest edition of the Berlin Film Festival.
