The duo João Canijo and Anabela Moreira seem destined to last: after the documentary “Portugal – Um Dia de Cada Vez” (2015), the filmmakers return with a humorous short fiction film. Pursuing ideas of a Portuguese realism, the film follows the adventures of a bride and her family on the verge of a nervous breakdown on her wedding day. The narrative focuses on the moments before the departure of the bride from her house, showing a galaxy of characters – adults, the elderly and children – immersed in the trivia of the day: well-dressed, solemn, but with the idiosyncrasies of their day-by-day existence. Children play around the pool, adults sit around the table talking about taxi drivers – the occupation of one of them. As in previous works, this film combines professional actors and non-actors, creating the effect of almost documentary realism. “O Dia do Meu Casamento” also curiously stars Anabela Moreira herself, her twin sister making a special appearance, together with João Canijo, and João Braz, a frequent editor of their films. A little experiment in fiction – in its duration – this is a short film where the authors return to the familiar territory of cultural identity, extending their previous production “É o Amor”, a film that was commissioned by Curtas Vila do Conde in its program Campus, directed by Canijo, and featured by Anabela Moreira.
