In deep darkness, somewhere off the coast of the Comoros archipelago between the island of Anjouan and the neighboring island of Mayotte (an overseas French territory), we meet a child and a man on a small motorboat: Patron, the child, is being groomed by his adoptive father to become a boat captain and survive the everyday experience of carrying clandestine passengers and smuggled goods. Because he is a minor, Patron can’t be arrested by the local authorities. The nocturnal theme (meticulously photographed), the constant noise coming from the engine and the claustrophobic feeling inside the boat set a tone of anguish for this fictional short film that brings several social themes onto the screen: migrations, frontiers, inequalities and the loss of childhood. French director Laura Henno is a photographer making her debut film with "Koropa", a first experiment that has been selected to several international festivals and won the Prix Egalité Diversité at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand competition.
