Where the paths of two men covering the distance between two continents meet, fits the story of two countries and their people. First, we listen to François Mackandal, a warrior who was taken from Guinea to Haiti and made a slave, having later become a legend and slave leader. This man interacts with the camera in a lamentation under the sound of drums, as if he was the apparition of a ghost emerging from the sea who tells his story, the story of his people and the hardships he went through. Interspersed with this evocation of the past, "Le Cri Du Lambi" shows us the story of a second man, he too having emerged from the sea like a ghost. This second segment presents a free adaptation of the story of Mackandal, imagined in modern times, creating a parallel between present and past. The second man, as if doomed to a cycle of cursed repetition, sails through a foggy place - from the sea to the forest, from the forest to the city and from the city to the sea – as if everything were a transitory state. In that undefined, fleeting space also fits the cycle of life. (JA)
