British filmmaker based in the United States, Julia Pott is internationally renowned for her animations and illustrations that mirror her personal concerns. Her films have been selected for the Sundance, SXSW and Annecy festivals. In "Summer Camp Island", Pott tells the story of Oscar, a fourteen-year-old teenager who goes to a summer camp but who misses his parents and still hasn’t managed to get rid of his imaginary friends – his favourite pyjamas, marshmallows or Don Juan tomato soup – that embarrass him in front of his best friend, a girl who no longer wants to play with Oscar because she has fallen in love with Max, the teenager who no longer uses pyjamas. "Summer Camp Island" has moments of immense imagination that do not let those who spent their childhood watching cartoons indifferent. The voiceovers that personify the imaginary friends are expressively interpreted and fill the animation with tender details. (RB)
