Fully shot in the desert of Morocco, this new film by Lois Patiño is entitled with the Arabic word fajr, which has a double meaning: it means both the dawn, as well as the adahan, the song, which is the call to prayer. The desert is the key element in the construction of the film, as absolute space without limits, but it is also a place of retreat and meditation, a place of encounter between the individual and any spiritual entity, interior or exterior. The light of dawn starts by drawing the cut-out of the dunes in the sky. Then, there are silhouettes of figures that appear in the landscape. They remain motionless as if they were the measuring time. The singing of adahan reminds us that, in addition to daily life, a spiritual life co-exists. The figures merge into the desert landscape, as if they ascended to a different level of existence. Lois Patiño is an artist and filmmaker whose relationship with Curtas Metragens CRL has been fostered over several years: either with several participations in the experimental competition of Curtas, with a solo exhibition at Solar ("A Double Immobility", 2013/14) or with the shooting of "Noite Sem Distância", 2015, a production in the context of the Campus project.
