The story of "All Small Bodies" unfolds in a place similar to what it means to inhabit adolescence: an enchanted forest, filled with mystery, magic and fear. The time is that of a distant post-apocalyptic future. Jennifer Reeder sustains an elaborate visual style, already present in her previous films, and uses saturated colors and surreal scenes to connect it with the fairy tale imagery. Reeder – who presented at Curtas respectively "Blood Under the Skin" and "Crystal Lake" in 2015 and 2016 – revisits freely "Hansel & Gretel", the Grimm brothers popular children's tale, while reflecting, as always, on the themes of female experience and traumas. For Somine de Beauvoir, little girls become teenagers and consequently flesh when, for the first time, they come to experience themselves as a sexual, bodily being exposed to another’s gaze. In "All Small Bodies", Reeder puts two pre-teens in Hansel and Gretel shoes, but this time with the prophecy of becoming the prey of a dominating man in the forest: whenever a girl succumbs to his power, he cooks her and eats her, and his feast shall be in that day.
