F.J. Ossang's first work, while still attending IDHEC film school, is inspired by the book "On Terrorism and the State", by the Swiss Gianfranco Sanguinetti, a member of the Situationist International. The film already outlines a punk leaning in Ossang's filmography, demonstrating a constant challenge to traditional film conventions. The first shot shows it: a man shouts at the camera, framed in an unconventional way, warning that this is a 16mm black-and-white pamphlet film. The film continues to dictate orders for individuals' behavior, showing how power can be a form of tyranny. The images of the film are almost documentary-like, showing on one hand roads where the cars go by incessantly and on the other historical monuments. The duplicity of the film summons a tragic story of state-nation ideas and a kind of contemporary apathy, broken by speech and music. In short, it is a film-essay, almost of political quotation, in which Ossang establishes his great theoretical and artistic inspirations. (DR)
