We hear fireworks, but there is no party mood. In a small village a boy and a girl meet. She's local, he’s from the city. They are mourning someone's death, while the village celebrates life. The young boy is introspective, while the long journey reveals his loneliness: as he will later say "today is the day of the exchange", to leave the father and stay with the mother. The impressive images he sees from the car window are a reflection of his confusion. The girl, on the other hand, has a country rebelliousness: she is more empathetic, even explanatory. It is with her that we enter into a kind of countryside freedom: the two end up playing around trees, simulating an unlimited friendship. Still, at the end of the day, he will return to the city, she will remain there. This is the second film by Diogo Vale, who returns to Curtas Vila do Conde after taking part in the Take One! competition. (DR)
