In the studio and around the city, two sound technicians are collecting audio material to use in the film they are both working on. Fixed shots of microphones installed in the midst of a vast landscape to record the sounds of nature and of statues of propaganda from the regime, and shots of big cats dozing or technicians and microphones surrounding camels chewing while the main characters question the importance and public recognition of their work, heighten the absurdity of the mise en scène, creating a constant duality between real and artificial, true and false, and silence and sound. In this metaphorical recording of (natural or imposed) silence and words, Thai director Sorayos Prapapan also conveys a strongly political message about what is silenced by dictatorship. (NM)
