Dedicated to the French filmmaker Jean Eustache, the filmmaker of “sitting speech”, “Jeunes Hommes à la Fenêtre” is a portrait of two young graphic designers who live their boring work routine in a prostrate, apathetic way inside an office with little light. One day, thanks to a mistake while scanning an image, their routine is broken. Free for a few moments of redeeming idleness, they wander through conversations culminating in the smoke of two cigarettes in front of a window from where the routine of others can be seen and heard. “Jeunes Hommes à la Fenêtre” is, therefore, a conversation between two sitting actors, which gives meaning to the dedication to Eustache, in an apparent documentary register that refers us to a social outlook. After having presented “Manodopera” here last year – a film that also portrayed moments of idleness in the disenchanted work routines among friends – Greek filmmaker Loukianos Moshonas is back to Curtas Vila do Conde with this short, which had its world premiere at the last edition of the Locarno Festival, where it was nominated for the European Short Film Award from the prestigious European Film Awards.
