Somewhere in the middle of Florida, a crowd gathers to celebrate the execution by electrocution of serial killer Ted Bundy, a classic double of American mythology. A girl ingeniously takes advantage of the situation to take portraits and earn some money with them. However, she naively believes to be immune to the grotesque character of such a show. Laura Moss – her first time at Curtas – evokes the notion that evil can be anywhere, even in small gestures, and that we can always be accomplices, even if unknowingly. The game between a brief moment of recording for posterity and the consequences of a brief innocent choice is used by the film to illustrate the tenuous line between the teenage girl’s loss of innocence and the perversity surrounding the event in question – as if it were possible to forget that amid that crowd, where Bundy masks multiply, someone like him could be hidden. This is a poetic portrait of haunting beauty, of a day that might dissipate in history but will forever remain in the girl’s memory. (JA)
