The days of Raymonde, a virgin and blessed owl, run smoothly, divided between housework and the job of selling online used knickers to perverted clients. Throughout her life, the faith in God and her religious routines were fundamental, but temptation is lurking and Raymonde wonders why she has been scrupulously following the precepts dictated by an old-fashioned Catholicism that has never done her any good. Raymonde feels alone, with no man or offspring. This is the premiere of Sarah Van Den Boom, who already has four works in her filmography, at Curtas Vila do Conde. In "Raymonde or The Vertical Escape", the director portrays the misadventures and tribulations of an old bipolar Dionysian/Apollonian owl and the ridicule of divine pretension, in a film served by an exceptional puppet animation technique and Yolande Moreau's witty and candid narration, in a story that is at once libertarian, romantic, and surreal.
