A river, a group of teenage friends and lots of cigarettes. The subtitle of David Pinheiro Vicente's short film couldn't be more suited: chapters on youth. In the damp and thick air of the woods and adolescence, five young people celebrate the seasonal boredom and the discovery of sexuality. Between sparse and trivial scenes – a kiss, a dive, a bite, a fall –, the sculptural bodies put together a series of wet episodes and living tableaux. Love affairs and misadventures that owe as much to the history of painting, considering its formalism, as well as to Éric Rohmer's tales, or to Pasolini's erotic framing and attention to physical details, that could be sometimes seen as voyeuristic. After the international premiere at the Berlinale, this is the film's national debut in the 26ª edition of Curtas Vila do Conde. (AJM)
