A deserter roaming in the forest finds his own corpse. Fleeing from the men who have killed him, he decides to hold a cremation ceremony, setting off on a journey downriver where he encounters various ghosts from the past and a group of teenagers who want to help him. Shot in black and white on Super 8 and 16mm stock, “Song X” is an intense visual and sound poem that pays tribute to a recently deceased musician and friend of the director but is also, above all, a more symbolic reflection on life after death and the need to preserve memories of the dead through ritual. Selected for the Locarno and Rotterdam festivals, “Song X” marks the return of Thai director Pathompon Mont Tesprateep, one of the most promising figures in this field, to Curtas after presenting his music video “Frezpicadi – Love Assassin” in 2005.
