François is tired of living a life of petty crime as a drug dealer and fed up with not being respected by anyone and always having to work with shady characters. He just wants a normal, peaceful life managing an ice cream chain that is expanding to Morocco, a project in which he has already invested money. But when the money he thought was safe disappears, he is forced to come up with a masterplan to save his dream. Clearly, in the midst of all the chaos, nothing will go according to plan. Romain Gavras, a director who divides his work between fiction films and music videos, received a special mention in the 2011 Curtas Festival for his full-length film “Our Day Will Come”. He now returns to Curtas with a black comedy that offers an irreverent and unpredictable take on family dynamics, the underworld of crime, and male insecurities. Among the host of gaudy characters, Isabelle Adjani, playing a mother hen with a criminal history, and a hilarious performance by Vincent Cassel as a kind of incompetent assistant who murmurs instead of speaking, stand out. However, in addition to producing a sharp satire on a series of misadventures in which music plays a leading role by amplifying the theatricality, Gavras also presents a critical view of society, unmasking the obsession with materialistic values and appearances that control and suffocate these characters. In the end, François is just a misunderstood loser who is trying to escape this fate. (JA)
