Filipe Abranches is one of the most important talents in Portuguese animation. In “À Tona”, he approaches the theme of war once again — as he had already done in “Chatear-me-ia Morrer Tão Joveeeeem…”, also screened at Curtas — now from the point of view of a pilot who crashes in the middle of the ocean. He is alone, utterly alone, afloat on his plane, which floats on the waters. The creative drawing of Abranches makes the short very ingenious, even though the desolate landscape is always the same. Little by little, the pilot starts to despair, drifting into a crazy wave of dreams and nightmares. (DR)
