Filmed in 16mm film, between Berlin and a small place in the south of England, “A Return” proposes a journey, fragmented by images and juxtaposed sounds in an apparently disconnected way. What will then be the return that the British James Edmond suggests in this work? From the figure, which is often reflected in windows and mirrors, to a space of familiar and affective memory (Edmond was born in England and lives in Berlin)? From cinema to its ancestral, primitive form, where it was expressed by attractive, violent and abrupt images and sounds? James Edmond premieres at Curtas Vila do Conde, “A Return” has already been shown at major international film festivals such as Toronto, New York and Oberhausen. This work also marks his debut with 16mm film, since he has been working with super8 film ever since, fascinated by the materiality and analogue texture of cinema. (PC)
