The work of the Australian artist Pia Borg is not stranger to galleries, museums and film festivals around the world, including Curtas Vila do Conde. This film begins with a Nagra audio tape reel recorder, true objects of desire, technological jewels made in Switzerland, whose quality and beauty have made them iconic objects of the technological apparatus of cinema. We see the recorder with the coils in motion while we hear a female voice, but we will not reveal what she says. It seems that the voice was not recorded in the best conditions and lacks quality. Perhaps the recordings have not been made, after all, with the Nagra, but what matters is that the Nagra is an iconic object and much desired. In addition to the look that this film offers us about a subject (which we do not want to reveal), it can also be seen as an essay on the media and what they give us to see, but also on the means we use to capture, transform or synthesise images and sounds, to create the cinema and other arts, and that allow us to imagine reality.
