What’s even worth a photograph? What can a photojournalist actually do in the face of the state of the world? With an argument that was adapted from a series of autobiographical poems, this is the story of a disappointed man and the effects that a reportage, and a photograph in particular, have on his future. After being summoned to cover the funeral of an Iraqi immigrant murdered in New York, the protagonist is approached by one of the women mourning, who asks him to publish a photo of her father, so that he can be remembered for the way he lived and not just for being dead. The social convulsion images broadcasted on an old television accompany the main character’s confusion. The period of time in which the story unfolds is undefined by the repeated use of analogical devices that seem to refer back to another time, when the images were sacred. Moved by the story of the Iraqi’s daughter, frustrated by his inability, the photographer neglects his own family while searching for a new path. This is a six-hands film by James Franco, Pedro Gómez Millán and Zachary Kerschberg, newcomers to Curtas, the result from a collaborative project.
